I often get asked what the property taxes are here in Williamsburg, Virginia. If the caller is from New Jersey, I already know the response I'm going to get...the caller today dropped the phone and yelled, "That's CRAZY low!"
NJ has one of the highest average tax rates in the country and is ranked first for property taxes as a percentage of median income.
The City of Williamsburg has a tax rate of .54 per $100 and James City County's tax rate is .77 per $100. So to put his in perspective, a home that is assessed at $300,000 will have yearly property taxes of $1,620 (City of Williamsburg) and $2,310 (James City County).
So lower property taxes is just one of the MANY reasons you should move to Williamsburg, Virginia!
